KETAMINE-ASSISTED-PSYCHOTHERAPY
Ketamine
Ketamine, discovered in 1962, is an FDA approved anesthetic agent used widely due to its excellent safety profile. Generic ketamine is not yet FDA approved to treat mental health conditions, and is used off-label for mental health treatment. There is a growing body of research that ketamine may be beneficial for: Treatment Resistant Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, Bipolar Depression, OCD, and Suicidality.
There are multiple routes to administer Ketamine. At Healing Hearts Therapy, we are currently offering oral Ketamine in the form of lozenges (known as "troches"). We plan to offer intramuscular (known as "IM") Ketamine in the near future. We will collaboratively tailor the treatment to best suit your diagnosis and preferences. |
Ketamine-Assisted-Psychotherapy (KAP)
KAP is a growing therapeutic modality that weaves therapy into the Ketamine treatment. This is accomplished in three components:
Preparation
Therapists and Journeyers collaborate to ensure the Journeyer is in a prepared mindset for Ketamine. This preparation time explores intentions for healing and much more. Preparation typically takes 3-5 sessions, 50-minutes per session.
|
Journey
Therapy during the Ketamine journey can be a transformative experience. Anxieties, ruminative thoughts, inhibitions, and triggers may be softened with low dose Ketamine, allowing gentle entry into deeper therapeutic work. KAP Sessions typically run 2-3 hours per session.
|
Integration
Integration refers to processing the Ketamine Journey and what emerges in the time immediately following, with an eye towards deriving personal meaning and integrating new knowledge into everyday life. 50-minutes per session, number of sessions varies.
